Kidney Research UK gives hope by funding medical research to help find a cure for kidney disease. We have invested over £40 million to medical research in the last 25 years. In just one of our 90 current research projects, Kidney Research UK is funding investigations into how to make a transplanted kidney last for life, instead of just ten years. We are hopeful of a breakthrough in our work on kidney scarring, a major cause of kidney failure. We fund research across all areas of kidney disease including prevention, early detection, dialysis and transplantation. As well as funding vital research, we support patients, and raise awareness of kidney-related issues amongst the general public. Our patient information service provides advice and literature on how best to deal with each type of kidney disease.
Why we do it:
Kidney Research UK is determined to help people. That is why we plan to invest a further £11 million into research over the next three years and one day reach our ambitious plan to double our income and treble our impact on kidney disease. Right now, the lives of over three million people in the UK are threatened by Chronic Kidney Disease. No one knows who or when kidney disease may strike next. It could be any one of us, young or old. As a charity, we rely on people like you to help us fund more research as we have to turn away four projects for every one we can fund – we need to save more lives.
